Swarm Urbanism

The Project is an imaginary urban planning exercise for the runway land when Taipei Airport relocated. The Nodal Field theory is applied to the design. Computational methods are also being studied in conjunction with the theory.

Two tools: 1.Processing—agent-based scripting tool for computer graphics, can mimic a cluster of characterized objects reacting to a field or node. 2.Grasshopper— a Rhino plug-in that can script mesh calculation.

Process: With both tools at hand, the design process tries to find out the main course of circulation when several nodes were placed on the site as urban points of interest. Then, based on the generated circulation a full-scale urban fabric can be grown using the mesh tool with defined rules that follow the field theory.
